Faithful Men
Now more than ever our society needs strong, God-fearing, faithful men to restore the family structure in homes across this country and around the world as well. This page will serve as a resource to help equip men to do just that. Through Bible study, accountability, and a desire to see change we can reshape the moral values that have been eroding for years.
The Insidious Nature of Porn
The Bible doesn’t mince words when it comes to porn. It’s clear that any kind of immorality, as far as scripture is concerned, includes watching pornography – and there are several passages that target lustful desires and the spiritual impact directly. Here are just a few: 1 Peter 2:11; Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 5:27-28; 2 Timothy 2:22; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; Romans 1:26-27; Proverbs 6:32; Galatians 5:16; Romans 8:12-13.
Porn can be quietly destructive, eroding away the hunger for spiritual connection and promoting a sense of shame or loathing that becomes part of our personality. It’s like an insidious force attacking us from within – one we must recognize to fight back against it. This shame stunts a person’s spiritual growth and creates a barrier between the individual and God.
Pornography may seem like a harmless way to let off steam, but ultimately it comes with its own set of consequences. Not only are the people involved in creating porn often put through painful experiences just for our viewing pleasure, those who indulge end up dishonoring themselves and, if married, their spouse and running afoul of God’s judgment.
Jesus preached against visual lust as an immoral act, just like adultery. It’s something that shouldn’t be taken lightly and requires a genuine desire to repent from such a lifestyle.
A Crisis Inside
The Church is facing its most serious issue in history – pornography. An alarming two out of three Christian men, “faithful men”, confess to viewing it each month, with young believers watching even more regularly than that! A national survey among college students identified as devout Christians revealed a shocking statistic: an incredible nine out of ten watch porn at least occasionally, and more than six have made it into their weekly routine. The easy access and anonymity the internet has provided means there have never been so many religious individuals exposing themselves to pornographic material.
The fight against porn addiction isn’t just affecting young Christians and church members; it’s impacting pastoral leadership, too. In fact, studies show that 50% of pastors have their own battles with pornography – a significant barrier when trying to provide guidance for those dealing with the same issue in the congregation.
Despite the fact that many churches provide programs to help those in need, shame surrounding porn addiction means hardly anyone seeks it out. In some cases, only Christians facing an extreme crisis are willing to risk revealing their embarrassing and often hidden sin – meaning a mere 10% of Christian men who struggle with this issue get any kind of aid.
Breaking free from porn can be a daunting task, but the church is uniquely positioned to help with equipping and deshaming. Sadly though, only 7% of pastors are creating solutions for those struggling against this addiction.
If you are struggling with a pornography addiction, please reach out today. Together, let’s help shift this world into an ever-increasing number of faithful men serving God and their families the way He intended.
