Trusting God

Trusting God

Trusting God when you want to do it all in your own strength is a difficult proposition but one that is necessary in order to see God in His rightful place.

Psalm 35:1-3

Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid. Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, ‘I AM your Salvation.’

Few life experiences match the profound isolation, anxiety, and helplessness of facing legal trouble. Whether you are dealing with a wrongful accusation, custody battles, or bureaucratic persecution, the courtroom and the legal system can feel like arenas where justice is entirely arbitrary. In these moments, human systems often fail. Truth can be manipulated, evidence can be misinterpreted, and the sheer financial and emotional toll can leave you feeling utterly defeated before a judge’s gavel even falls.

Yet, Scripture invites us into a radically different perspective. When earthly courts fail or threaten to overwhelm us, we are directed to the ultimate courtroom of heaven. In Psalm 35, King David is surrounded by malicious accusers and false witnesses. He does not take matters into his own hands, nor does he succumb to paralyzing despair. Instead, he appeals to the highest authority in the universe. He asks God to become his legal advocate, his defender, and his shield. He relinquishes his strength to a position of trusting God for vindication.

When we face legal turmoil, our natural instinct is to fight back with the weapons of the world: anger, manipulation, sleepless nights, and desperate anxiety. But the Gospel calls us to a posture of holy trust. Vindication ultimately belongs to God. In Isaiah 50:7-8, the suffering servant declares, “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, because I know I will not be put to shame. He who vindicates me is near.”

Trusting God during legal trouble does not mean you abandon wise counsel or legal representation. God often works through earthly instruments, judges, and lawyers. Rather, it means your ultimate security is shifted away from human outcomes and anchored in the unshakeable Righteousness of God. Even if earthly verdicts are unjust—as they were for Joseph in Potiphar’s prison, and ultimately for our Lord Jesus Christ—God sees the hidden truth. He is the God who breaks the teeth of the wicked and brings the hidden things to Light. In the waiting, in the depositions, and in the courtroom, His whisper to your soul remains: “I am your salvation.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
You are the righteous Judge of all the earth. Right now, I bring my criminal case, my anxieties, and my fears directly to Your throne. You see the truth of my situation, even when others twist it. Lord, be my advocate, my shield and my buckler. Grant wisdom to my lawyers, give discernment to the judge, and restrain any injustice or falsehood directed against me. When the process feels overwhelming, whisper to my soul that You are my salvation. Guard my heart from bitterness, and grant me the supernatural Peace that passes all understanding. I place my vindication in Your hands, trusting God that You make all things right in Your perfect time.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
